For the first time in the history of the United States women are fighting in a war zone as enlisted soldiers and as a result many are dying; eighty as of June 19, 2007.
In the spring of 2004, I began a series of design projects that sought to visually enumerate and differentiate this growing list of United States military fatalities in the current Iraq war. These are projects that enumerate the total number of fatalities (quantity) yet strive to differentiate among the individual soldiers killed (quality).
